Knights of Columbus Council 3055 Martin Zaunbrecher, Grand Knight

KC_LogoFounded in New Haven, Connecticut by Fr. Michael McGiveny in 1882, the Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of Catholic men. Begun as a benefit society formed to give aid to members and their families it also aims to promote social, intellectual, and spiritual fellowship among members and their families. Knights have been recognized nationally and internationally for their educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief, and public relief works. “Brother Andre” Council 3055 of Gueydan was officially organized in June of 1947 and is well known for its dedicated and laborious support of St. Peter Church and School. The council was named for Blessed Andre Besette, a brother in the Congregation of the Holy Cross and founder of the St. Joseph Oratory in Montreal, Canada. Blessed Andre was a personal acquaintance of our long-time Pastor, Msgr. Garneau.

Ladies Altar Society Jeanie Potier, President

altarclothThe Gueydan Ladies Altar Society was organized when the first Catholic church in Gueydan was established and placed under the patronage of St. Ann. Its primary purpose was to purchase and care for the parish’s church supplies. Members set up and clear the altar and sanctuary before and after Masses, keep linens, priest’s vestments, server’s cassocks and surplices clean and presentable, replace candles, provide wine and host fund-raising through the sale of confectionaries. The members pray the Rosary with Guest Home residents each Friday and offer a monthly Mass on first Fridays for al living and deceased members.

Pro Life Ministry Stephanie Breaux, Coordinator

prolife1The late Pope John Paul II challenged Catholics to confront the ever-growing “culture of death” by developing a “culture of life”.  As Catholics, we believe that every life is sacred, from conception to natural death, and must follow the Lord’s command, “You shall not kill.” God alone is the giver of life; no human being has the right to take the life of another innocent human being and is permitted to take the life of an unjust aggressor only under the strictist circumstances. The evils of legalized procured abortion, infanticide, abuse, neglect, murder, and euthanasia are never justified. The Pro-life ministry reminds us of our duty to uphold the sanctity of life and dignity of all persons by praying the Pro-Life rosary on the first Tuesday of each month, setting up for pro-life displays and distributing reading material in October and January, and raises funds for the Women’s Center in Lafayette.

Bereavement Committee Diana Hebert and Linda Potier, Co-Chairmen

CB108105The Bereavement Committee is sponsored by the Catholic Daughters of St. Peter Church. Four teams and volunteers, solicited by the committee, cook for the families of loved ones buried by the pastor of St. Peter’s or his substitute.

Adoration Chapel Adorders Patsy Woods, Coordinator

Monstrance1The practice of daily adoration of the Blessed Sacrament began November 6, 1996 at St. Peter’s. There are presently 107 persons assigned a particular Holy Hour. A Holy Hour is one’s personal time with the Lord present in the Holy Eucharist; one may bring their own prayer books, rosaries, or Bibles or use those provided in the chapel. It is a time for the soul to rest and experience the sweet peace that comes from being in the presence of Our Lord Jesus. The adoration chapel (located on the east side of the church) is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to spend some time in the presence of Our Lord during those hours.
