Anyone interested in learning more about the Legion of Mary, which Fr. Vidrine preached about this past weekend, is invited to an informational meeting Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30pm in the SPS Library. St. Peter’s is blessed once again to receive a seminarian for the summer…and this summer, we’ll be privileged to have a seminarian who’ll be a newly ordained transitional Deacon! Deacon Brian is sponsored by the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette. He’s a 2004 graduate of St. Thomas More High School. He entered St. Joseph Seminary College in Covington, LA and completed the prestigious Basilian Program at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, earning a Ph.L. in Philosophy. He was then sent to study theology at Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, where he hopes to complete an MA in Theology in May of 2013. God willing, he will be ordained to the Sacred Priesthood next summer- in June of 2013. We welcome Deacon Brian to Gueydan!

OPERATION RICE BOWL the Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services, has for 35 years, called participants to pray with their families and faith communities; fast in solidarity with those who hunger; learn about our global community and the challenges of poverty around the world, and give sacrificial contributions to those in need. Operation Rice Bowl offers Catholics in the United States a way to connect with our brothers and sisters around the world. Let’s fast with Operation Rice Bowl this Lent.

On Sunday, February 12, 2012, Sr. Marie Isabelle Marxuach, OP, a Dominican Sister from Toulouse, France, joined the community for Holy Mass while visiting Gueydan. She is a descendant of François Gueydan (brother of Jean-Pierre) and came to our town to see their family’s posterity. Pictured above on the right of Fr. Vidrine is Sr. Marie Isabelle and on the left is Sr Mary Andrew from the Congregation of St. Cecilia in Nashville- a native of Sunset, LA.

Most of you are hopefully aware of the US Government’s recent decision to mandate employers and insurance companies to provide birth control and sterilization (including abortifacients) free of charge. This is an unprecedented violation of the freedom of conscience and religious liberty, particularly for Catholic institutions.

Fortunately, our bishops are speaking up, in particular Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan. Below are resources to help you educate yourself on this important issue so that you can take appropriate action.

There will be an Advent Penance Service offered here at St. Peter Church on Monday, December 19, at 6:30pm in the church. Other Priests from the area will be here to assist in hearing confessions. “So we are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were appealing through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20)
