Registration for children entering 1^st through 10^th grades will begin Tuesday, August 10^th through Thursday, August 12^th. First time registrants should bring proof of Baptismal/First Communion Certificates.  Children previously registered may send fee of $20 per child plus $10 each additional child (checks made payable to St. Peter Church) with child/children’s name and grade they are entering. Also 11^th grade students attending schools outside the parish who will be confirming should register at the parish office.

PLEASE NOTE!   Because books need to be ordered and rosters made, a late fee of $10 will be added for each child who is not registered on time. Office hours are 9:00 a.m.-Noon and 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen used to say often, “As goes the family, so goes society.” We do not need much explanation to see the truth of his words today. Because the Sacrament of Marriage is under so great an attack and Married Couples are greatly struggling, the moral fabric of society seems to be melting away before our very eyes. The fruit of this is seen in the great evils that are happening to the human person every day. Natural Family Planning Awareness Week begins on Sunday, July 25 and goes to Saturday, July 31. This national educational campaign is sponsored by the United States Bishops. Everyone should know about Natural Family Planning methods and the teachings of the Church, which support their use in marriage. The dates of Natural Family Planning Awareness Week highlight the anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae Vitae (July 25) which articulates the Catholic Church’s teaching about human sexuality, conjugal love and responsible parenthood. All are invited to a dynamic, Catholic Bible Study to be held at St. Peter Church this summer, known as The Great Adventure. It will meet during the months of June and July on Tuesday Evenings at 6:30pm. This Bible Study has been very successful across the country. The cost for student packs for the Bible Study is $20.00. The VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children Online Awareness Training may be used to complete required yearly Continuing Education for Safe Environment.

This is for volunteers who are in need of Continuing Education. Initial Trainings must still be attended in a live session. Live sessions are held periodically at St. Peter Church and are announced.

Our Lord was emphasizing the openness, trust, and sheer wide-eyed wonder with which children approach life. He wanted his followers to contemplate the possibilities of God’s Kingdom for them with the same childlike wonder.

It is extremely sad, therefore, to contemplate the terrible effects that the crime of child sexual abuse has on children and young people and their families, and sadder still to consider that this has occurred within our Church.

The mission of the Diocese of Lafayette’s program, “A Safe Environment for the Protection of Children and Young People” is to insure the safety of children and young people who have been entrusted to our care in our parishes, schools, religious education classes, and other programs.

This mission is pursued in three ways:

1. By thoroughly screening and supervising all members of the clergy (priests and deacons), as well as all employees and volunteers who work with children and young people as part of their ministry.
2. By providing appropriate training in recognizing and reporting child abuse to appropriate civil and Church authorities.
3. By holding all members of the clergy, employees and volunteers who work with children and young people to Christ-centered and professional codes of conduct.
