In celebration of the 110th anniversary of Gueydan, the Gueydan Museum has had a history exhibit from Sep 1 – Nov 28. Among the many historical artifacts present in the exhibit, St. Peter Church has had a display. The Catholic Faith has been present from the beginning and has nourished the faith of the people of Gueydan during those 110 years. Articles that are part of the display include the first Baptismal Register containing the records of the earliest baptisms of the Parish, a pyx from the 1920′s, the announcement book of long-time Pastor, Fr. Garneau, and two original liturgical vestments: a cope and a surplice. Also displayed are many photos from throughout the history of St. Peter Church. In view of the on-going hazards posed by the H1N1 virus and in response to several Parishioners’ requests, Fr. Vidrine has decided to implement the following procedures for the Sign of Peace at Mass until further notice:
- At weekend Masses, the Sign of Peace will be given by a simple nod of the head or other gesture that does not involve physical contact.
- At weekday Masses, the option to omit the Sign of Peace will be chosen. So, directly after the prayer for the Lord’s peace, the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) will begin.
- At all Masses, the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will use hand sanitizer before beginning the distribution of Holy Communion.

The period of preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary according to the devotion of St. Louis de Montfort will begin this Thursday, November 5, and will end with the consecration on Tuesday, December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God. Booklets containing the prayers to prepare for the consecration can be found in the vestibule of the church. Fr. Vidrine will teach a three-part series about the importance of the Total Consecration later in November. If you have never consecrated yourself to Mary, Fr. Vidrine highly encourages you to do so. It is important that we receive the gift of Mary’s Motherhood that Jesus Himself gave us from the cross. As St. Louis de Montfort affirms, Mary “is the surest, the easiest, the shortest and the most perfect means of going to Jesus Christ” In this consecration, we entrust ourselves to Mary, body and soul, without reserve, that we may belong entirely to Jesus Christ.

The relics of St. Mary Magdalene, often called the ‘Apostle to the Apostles’ throughout the history of the Church, have been venerated in Sainte Baume, France, since the 2nd century. Now, Fr. Romeric, a French Dominican Priest will carry the reliquary here to Acadiana during the first week of November. This is the first time the relics of Mary Magdalene have been in the USA. A part of our rich Catholic Tradition is the joy of venerating those who have valiantly lived, and often died, for Christ. St. Mary Magdalene reminds us that holiness is eternal. Come and experience God’s grace manifested through the tibia bone, which knelt before Risen Christ Jesus. All are invited. For more information, contact Fr.
