On the weekend of June 18-19, 2011, a group from the Holy Land visited Acadiana. One of the seminarians came to St. Peter Church to discuss the struggles of Christians in the Holy Land, which include daily persecutions and even martyrdom at the hands of extremist Muslims. He asked for prayers for the Church there and offered hand-carved olive wood objects from Bethlehem and Jerusalem to purchase for their support.

LENTEN BIBLE STUDY: A BIBICAL WALK THROUGH THE MASS
Join Fr. Vidrine on five Thursday nights during Lent for a Bible Study by Dr. Edward Sri (similar to the one held last summer.) Based on the new English translation of the Mass, which goes into effect later this year (Advent 2011), the Bible Study will explore the Biblical roots of the words and gestures we experience in Mass and explains their profound significance. Those who participate in this study will come to know and understand the Mass like never before. They will see, perhaps for the first time, why they say what they say, and do what they do in worship of God every week at Mass. The student workbook can be purchased for $10.00. However, you do not have to buy a workbook to attend. Please call the office to let Fr. Vidrine know if you plan to attend the Bible Study and if you want to purchase a student workbook. All are invited to attend!

SPS Annual Saints Play

The scripts have been written, parts have been cast, and work has begun on our annual St. Peter School Christmas Play. Again this year we are focusing on the Advent themes of hope, love, joy, and peace. Our Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade classes will present “Signs of Hope”, reminding us that Christmas is a season filled with signs of our hope for Jesus’ coming into the world. Second and Third Grade will present “The Love of a Saint”, looking for the saint in Santa Claus and finding St. Nicholas. Our Fourth and Fifth Graders will present “The Joy of Music”, lead by Mrs. Theresa Campbell. The Sixth and Seventh Grade class will present “The Peace of a Charitable Heart”, through the comical view of “Swamp People”. Please join us on Thursday, December 9th or Friday, December 10th at 7 p.m in the Gueydan High School Auditorium. Tickets are on sale at St. Peter School and are $5.00 per person.

2010 Public Rosary Crusade

America is at a historic crossroad. Secularists are trying to push God from the public square. They reject His beneficial action upon society. But without God, where will our leaders get the wisdom to solve the great problems we face?
We must stop the secularist advance and pray to God for help. He will hear us, if we pray through the intercession of His Blessed Mother, Mary. That’s why we’re launching the 2010 Public Square Rosary Crusade.
In the Secret of the Rosary, Saint Louis de Monfort said, “Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down His mercy, and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Ghost, has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering.”
Join the 2010 Public Square Rosary Crusade today!
